Offered from my private collection is a Richard Black “Pendelton” custom cue, personally constructed, signed, and dated by Richard Black on January 14, 2003. Richard Black is a BCA Hall of Fame cue maker, known for his precision and classic designs. What sets this cue apart:
• Built entirely by Richard Black himself
• Hand signed AND dated (only done on custom orders)
• From a period when his craftsmanship was fully refined
Similar cues can still be ordered today, they will:
• Not be made by him personally
• Not be signed or dated
At 85, he is no longer actively building cues, making examples like this increasingly rare.
Specs:
• Butt: 15.40 oz
• Butt Sleeve: Ebony with snakewood windows, inlaid with mother-of-pearl notched diamonds and dots.
• Shaft: 1: 4.42 oz – 12.9 mm. Old growth rock maple with IVORY FERRULE.
• Shaft: 2: 4.02 oz – 12.9 mm. Old growth rock maple with IVORY FERRULE. Both shafts are original and show no signs of use on both.
• Tips: Unknown
• Joint: Engraved – 2023/02
• Forearm: Birdseye maple with 4-ebony and 4-colored veneer points with mother-of-pearl notched diamonds and dots. Signed “Richard Black January 14, 2003”.
• Wrap: Leather
• Rings: Checkered ivory and snakewood between nickel silver above and below wrap and above butt cap.
Condition: Cue is mint, pristine, and dead straight—together and apart. Not a scratch or a blemish. Truly exceptional condition for a cue of this age.
Collector Value
Signed cues indicate recognized craftsmanship—but dated cues confirm a true custom order, adding another level of provenance. Owning a signed and dated Richard Black cue is owning a piece of cue-making history.
